We have always know about digestive
enzymes and their importance. In fact we thought that
they were the only types of enzymes that humans could
take in supplemental form, until we learned about
systemic enzymes. If you take the time to learn about
the function of systemic enzymes you will see why we say
they are truly the catalyst of life.
Enzymes are biocatalysts; which means
that they either begin a reaction or cause a reaction to
speed up. Enzymes cause the chemical reactions
responsible for breathing, digestion, growth,
reproduction and most other body functions. Your body
contains approximately 3000 different enzymes.
Eating enzyme rich foods, such as
fruits and uncooked vegetables helps your body maintain
a healthy level of enzymes. With a good supply of
enzymes, your body will get more out of the vitamins and
minerals you consume.
Vitamins and minerals function within
the body in enzymatic reactions. Your body
synergistically uses enzymes with vitamins (which are
coenzymes) and minerals (which are cofactors). Enzymes
help vitamins and minerals to function. At the same
time, vitamins and minerals help enzymes to function.
As you age, your enzyme levels and
activity decrease. Your body makes most of the enzymes
you need, but poor diet, illness injury and other
circumstances may cause enzyme depletion.
Combined with professional
healthcare, proper diet and exercise, and enzyme
supplement can help maintain your normal enzyme levels
and balance your body's repair mechanisms.
By digesting our food, transporting it to the cells,
assimilating it into our cells, and utilizing it, (all work
done by enzymes), to make ATP - adenosine triphosphate. ATP
is the energy molecule that powers all of the "mechanical"
work in the body: every beat of your heart, every movement
of every muscle, active transport of food molecules across
the intestinal membrane, production of hydrochloric acid in
your stomach, and synthesis of all proteins which includes
the production of all enzymes, just to name a few. By the
way, even the activation of the ATP molecule to release its
energy is done by enzymes. So, the body can't do anything
without enzymes, especially all of the steps that are
involved in making ATP.
ATP is necessary to make our own enzymes.
Anything that impairs our ability to make ATP, impairs our
ability to make our own enzymes. Therefore, if our diet is
enzyme deficient, (like when there is any odor in your
bowel), then we've begun a vicious cycle that reduces our
metabolic efficiency and results in aging, degeneration,
disease, and premature death. That is why Dr. Mumbart
Santillo has said, "Enzyme
deficiencies are America's number one nutritional problem,
and are responsible for more dis-ease than all other
nutritional shortages combined."

Systemic enzymes also called proteolytic enzymes operate
throughout every system and organ in our body. Unlike
digestive enzymes found in the gastrointestinal tract,
systemic enzymes create or accelerate biochemical
reactions. Basically, they are “agents of change”.
Systemic Enzymes are reaction-causing agents allowing
cells to regenerate, enable breathing, healing and make
other body functions possible. These enzymes work
"systemically" or throughout the entire body. Systemic
Enzyme functions include:
